Is that the kind of hand holding a straight friend does? That lingering, pinkie hold seems like there's more there.

In personal experiences, I've had a lot of straight friends say or do things that they would consider flirty if they were doing it with a person they were interested in. Because they feel comfortable to touch you or open up to you because you're "safe".

It's a comment on my culture's lack of physical contact in a way - that a little hand hold triggers fluffy hearts because we just don't touch other people enough.

I don't want to chide Liz for doing it though - we should have more physical contact in our lives! This is Kay's problem. ;)

A recurring theme in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton is that most supernaturals crave touch far more than humans, and generally have cultures that encourage it, leading to all sorts of misunderstandings from regular people seeing romantic/sexual connotations in perfectly innocent* behaviours

*In some cases, not touching or rejecting touch would be considered an insult, making the culture shock more acute.

I'd say this physical touch thing is a consistent element of straight girl culture. It kind of confuses me as a guy, honestly. I was raised to avoid physical contact with ALL people in almost all situations. But I work with a bunch of straight women who constantly want to hug people all the time.

I don't want to be hugged. Or touched in any capacity. I really don't.
