Awwwwwwwwwwwww, damnit.

*EDIT* - So some people have asked "What is a trustee?/How can a trustee be at a private college?" - A trustee is someone elected by the school to oversee and approve such things as a budget, elect presidents for the school and so on. They are pretty important people as far as the school goes, but they are so entrenched in the political machine it's not even funny. They don't actually make/do things at the school, they just have the power to veto stuff. In a private sector, my experience has been if you throw enough cash at the school (and we're talking hundreds of thousands here) you can become a trustee. It's *almost* like becoming a stock-holder, in a way.

I've BEEN a trustee for a small organization, and you pretty much nailed it. I didn't give much money, but nobody else would take the position because of all the infighting.

If you do the job right, someone is always angry that their pet project didn't get "adequate" funding. Everyone sucks up to you, most of them hate you, and everything you do will be criticized.

Not every trustee is a jerk, but some trustees do love the power and the opportunity to abuse it, play favorites, and accept bribes both subtle and blatant. Power corrupts, but trusteeship can corrupt absolutely.

I stuck it out for three years and then politely told them to pick a new victim.
